Calçotada in Scotland 2026

Start building up your appetite because on the 21st of March 2026, Scotland’s most anticipated calçotada is back! Entrance to the venue is free, and the Onion Menu is £25. Book it now before it sells out!

The Onion Menu includes a portion (approximately 12-14) of calçots, Catalonia's favourite charred onion, special sauce, bread with tomato, crisps, fuet (cured sausage), cheese, and fruit. Everything will be prepared with great enthusiasm by the volunteers of the Centre Català. 

Ticket holders can also bring meat and veggies to cook on the grill once the calçots are finished. Please follow our Health and Safety instructions when you are near the grills.

If calçots aren’t quite your thing (nobody’s perfect), you’re still very welcome to come and buy lunch from one of The Pitt’s Market food stalls.

After lunch, you’ll be able to buy homemade Catalan desserts and enjoy a glass of ratafia (walnut liquor from Catalonia).

The Pitt will sell drinks at the bar throughout the day. 

We want the calçotada to be a true community celebration, so we kindly ask for your help during the event. We’ll need hands and energy to help keep the space in good condition.

SCHEDULE (approximate)

12 pm:  Have a drink while we cook the calçots, learn about Catalan culture and traditions or play a game with us.

1–3:30 pm: Lunch. A full Calçots menu (pre-book it now, they are likely to sell out!). We will also offer a 'Try a Calçot' option (sold at the stall on the day, limited tickets), for those who are curious about the long onions but don't want to commit to a full portion. Once all calçots are cooked, you'll be allowed to cook your own meat or veggies in the grill. 

2:30–5 pm: Community games organised by the Catalan Centre, such as a Musical Bingo! Get a Catalan dessert or and a walnut liquor (ratafia) from our stall.

5–6 pm: Help us clean up the space

Throughout the day there will be activities for all ages. Make a donation to help us organise more Catalan-inspired events. 

Important information:

This year the calçotada will take place in a fully covered space, but it may be cold. Please dress appropriately.

Parking is not allowed inside the venue. You can easily reach The Pitt by bus from Edinburgh city centre or park on the street nearby.

For those coming with children, please remember there will be open fires on the ground — we ask for maximum attention and cooperation to prevent accidents.

We will take photos and videos during the event for promotional and documentation purposes. If you would prefer not to appear in them, please email us in advance at escociacc@gmail.com.

Due to licensing regulations, only alcoholic drinks purchased from The Pitt’s bars may be consumed.

Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the premises (indoors or outdoors).

Calçotada a Escòcia 2026

Aneu fent gana perquè el 21 de març del 2026 torna la Calçotada més esperada d’Escòcia! L'entrada al recinte serà gratuïta, i el preu general del Menú Calçotada són £25. Reserva'l abans que s'esgoti!

El menú inclou una bona porció de calçots (12-14 aproximadament), salsa de calçots, pa amb tomàquet, patates fregides de bossa, fuet, formatge i fruita. Tot preparat amb moltes ganes pels voluntaris del Centre Català. Després de dinar, podreu comprar postres casolanes i fer un glop de ratafia.

El tiquet també us dóna accés a la brasa per cuinar carn o verdures que porteu, un cop els calçots estiguin fets. Si us plau, seguiu les instruccions dels organitzadors per evitar accidents al foc. 

Si els calçots no us acaben de fer el pes (ningú és perfecte), podeu venir igualment i comprar el dinar a alguna de les paradetes de The Pitt Market.

Al Bar de The Pitt podreu comprar begudes durant tot el dia.

Volem que la calçotada sigui una festa popular així que demanem la vostra ajuda durant la trobada. Necessitarem mans i energia per mantenir l'espai en bones condicions.

HORARIS (aproximats)

12 pm: Comença amb una beguda mentre cuinem els calçots. Demosta el teu coneixement sobre cultura catalana i juga als jocs que organitzarem

1-3:30 pm: Servirem el menú del calçot (reserva'l ara, és possible que s'exhaureixi!). També hi haurà l'oportunitat limitada de fer un 'Tast de calçot' (aquests menus reduïts es vendran aquell dia a l'stand del Centre Català, hi haurà poques existències). Qui vulgui cuinar carn a la brasa, podrà fer-ho un cop els calçots s'hagin acabat de coure. 

2:30-5 pm: Jocs organitzats pel Centre Català, com un Bingo Musical. Cafès, postres, ratafia.

5-6 pm: Recollida col·lectiva de la zona del foc i taules.

Durant tota la jornada hi haurà activitats per a totes les edats. Feu una donació si podeu, per ajudar-nos a organitzar més esdeveniments com aquest. 

Informació important:

Aquest any la calçotada serà en un espai completament cobert, però hi pot fer fred. Porteu vestimenta adequada.

No es pot aparcar dins del recinte. Podeu arribar a The Pitt en autobús fàcilment des del centre d’Edimburg o aparcar al carrer.

Pels que veniu amb criatures, recordeu que hi haurà foc a terra - us demanem maxima atenció i col·laboració per evitar accidents.

Aquest any, la festa de Nadal del Centre Català d'Escòcia comptarà amb la primera representació de la història dels Pastorets Escocesos. Un clàssic adaptat al nostre país d'acollida que no us podeu perdre (l'obra serà en català)!

La festa començarà amb l'obra de teatre, i seguirà amb el programa de Nadal: nadales, el Tió de Nadal, cartes als Reis, taller de neules mallorquines, visita del Patge reial, la Quina de Nadal de la Colla Castellera, i molts torrons i xocolata desfeta. Una celebració popular per a tots els públics.

(EN) This year, Scotland's Catalan Centre's Christmas Party will present the first ever performance of the 'Pastorets Escocesos'. This classic Catalan Nativy play has been adapted to our new homeland, Scotland. You can't miss it (although please note the play will be in Catalan)! 

The celebration will start with the play, and will continue by the following Christmas themed events: Catalan carols, the Pooping Log, writing letters for the 3 Wise Men, a workshop of 'neules' from Mallorca, a visit from the Royal page, a Christmas Bingo by Colla Castellera and loads of torrons and hot chocolate. A festive community gathering where everyone is welcome. 

Please book a ticket to help us plan! It's a Pay what you Can event; your contributions will help us a lot with the production of this event and other activities we organise.

Celebra l'Onze de Setembre amb el Centre Català d'Escòcia i la Colla Castellera d'Edinburgh!

T'hem preparat un programa farcit de cultura catalana perquè gaudeixis d’una jornada ben especial. Coneix altres catalans residents a Escòcia i ajuda a fer descobrir la nostra llengua i tradicions a persones d’arreu del món.

L’esdeveniment és gratuït i obert a tothom!

Començarem la vetllada amb una xerrada sobre l’origen i l’evolució dels castells, a càrrec de Oriol Garcia Ferrer i Mireia Bordonaba Vilanova, que compartiran anècdotes viscudes durant més de molts anys fent castells amb Capgrossos de Mataró, Minyons de Terrassa i Bergants de Terrassa (en anglès). Tot seguit, oferiran un taller pràctic d’introducció als castells, pensat per a persones que s’hi vulguin iniciar.

Durant la resta del dia, podràs participar en:

• Quiz de cultura catalana

• Jocs de taula en català per a totes les edats

• Taula de manualitats per a nens

• Concurs de beure en porró

• Ballada de sardanes

• Venda de marxandatge de la Colla Castellera d’Edinburgh

Celebrate Catalonia’s National Day with the Catalan Centre of Scotland and the Edinburgh Castellers!

We've prepared a programme full of Catalan culture for you to enjoy a very special day. Meet other Catalans living in Scotland and help introduce our language and traditions to people from all over the world.

The event is free and open to everyone!

We’ll kick off the evening with a talk (in English) on the origins and evolution of castells (human towers), given by Oriol Garcia Ferrer and Mireia Bordonaba Vilanova who will share stories and anecdotes from over many years of building castells with groups Capgrossos de Mataró, Minyons de Terrassa and Bergants de Terrassa. Afterwards, they'll lead a hands-on introductory workshop, perfect for beginners who want to give it a try.

Throughout the rest of the day, you’ll be able to take part in:

• Catalan culture quiz

• Board games in Catalan for all ages

• Kids' crafts table

• Porró drinking contest

• Traditional Sardana dancing

• Merchandise stall from the Edinburgh Castellers

We won't sell any food, so feel free to bring your own lunch or snacks.

Join us for a high-energy live show by La Cosina, a musical band from Catalonia blending folk, rumba, and Mediterranean rhythms with powerful, modern lyrics. Their music is joyful, rooted in tradition, and full of social spirit — a unique opportunity to enjoy live music from Catalonia in Scotland!

The concert is part of the 10th Anniversary of Colla Castellera d'Edimburgh. Don't miss their biggest Human Towers performance of the year in Edinburgh in the morning and the numerous activities organised by Scotland's Catalan Centre throughout the day. Don't think twice: join the Festa Major!

On  5 July, Scotland's Catalan Centre invites you to a day packed with tradition, fun and community to celebrate 10 years of the Human Towers Group - Colla Castellera d'Edinburgh in Scotland!
